The Advanced Balance Institute was opened in August this year. After thorough training on the LiteGait Partial Weight Bearing device, our physical therapists have used it numerous times with patients to enable them to walk without the fear of falling. It has been so rewarding to see the patients’ trepidation in walking without support, turn into excitement at being able to stride out and not fall, even with a stumble. Parkinsons patients are able to maintain their rhythm while on the treadmill and have been able to considerably increase the distance walked. This is beneficial in regaining strength and increasing aerobic capacity. A win- win situation for all patients who have difficulty getting their heart rate up.

Jerry Manning, with the Parkinsons support group and Dolores Kueffler from the MS Society have both kindly met with me at the clinic to observe the use of the LiteGait equipment. Both were enthusiastic about the potential that this holds for members of their societies. All of us at The Advanced Balance Institute are excited about being able to help any person that has difficulty walking to be able to improve their strength , balance and endurance under supervision from a physical therapist. If you have limited your activities for any reason because you are afraid of falling, please ask your doctor for a referral to us. I can guarantee that we will be able to improve your quality of life.
